As I sat on our back patio eating a cantaloupe for breakfast on this Sabbath morning, I couldn’t help reflect upon the events of yesterday and make comparisons between the environment at the campout and that which we enjoy here at home.
The greenery, shrubs, trees, flowers and oh so many shades of green were very pleasant and enjoyable as we sat around the camp site enjoying each other’s company and such wonderful surroundings. The sound of rushing waters and the pleasant aroma of food cooking were all part of an enjoyable day. As I sat on the patio at home, I couldn’t help but notice the same environmental elements: water falling into the pond, greenery of all shades, the quite and peaceful surroundings. The blessings of such a wonderful home and peaceful settings where family and friends can be invited to enjoy food, and pleasant surroundings are marvelous.
To enjoy what we have been given is a wonderful blessing. I suppose we feel the need to travel to other parts of the earth to seek surroundings and activities that bring us happiness as we can’t seem to find it where we are. And so, we go looking, but when it comes right down to the basic elements of joy and happiness, it is not much different than what is found in our own backyard.
